HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Waldron Street Improvements from 17th to 23rd are nearly
complete.
Depending on weather, it’s expected that the paving at 17th and Waldron will be completed on June 9th. Through this time, traffic around 17th and Waldron will be significantly impacted by the construction and alternate routes are advised. Pavement Markings and Striping are scheduled to be done on June 11th, 2014. Final grading, erosion control maintenance, and seeding are all that will remain to be completed on the project by the Contractor, Cornejo and Sons, meeting the substantial, June 23rd, and final completion date of July 23rd. The project completes an important phase of the Waldron Street Improvements, creating a three lane road section, and an 8’ sidewalk along the corridor from 17th to 23rd, which city officials say will improve safety and level of service for all modes of transportation to the businesses along the corridor.
The design of improvements, by the city’s engineering department, along the Waldron, from 23rd to 30th, is complete. Utility work in that area is currently ongoing to relocate
utilities, most note ably AT&T fiber optic cable, before the road project can begin.
Although this road section continues to deteriorate, construction is scheduled for the 2015 construction season. The project will be competitively bid in December, 2014, and will complete the Waldron Street Corridor from 23rd to 30th, connecting the south project from 17th to 23rd, constructed by Cornejo this year, to the Waldron Street project from 30th to 33rd , completed by APAC-Kansas in 2013.
