Starting on Monday, May 19, the Kansas Department of Transportation will begin a bridge replacement project on the bridge carrying K-61 Highway over the east side Ditch in Hutchinson, located between 4th and 11th St.
This bridge will be constructed one half at a time, so the section of K-61 between 4th and 11th will be reduced from four lanes to two lanes – one lane for northbound traffic and one lane for southbound. This bridge replacement project is scheduled to be completed by December 2014, depending on delays due to adverse weather conditions.
There will be an 11 foot width restriction in the work zone, so vehicles with widths wider than 11 feet will need to use an alternate route.
Dondlinger and Sons Construction Co. Inc. from Wichita is the prime contractor for this
project, at a cost of $887,044 which is funded by T-WORKS, the transportation program passed by the Kansas Legislature in May 2010.
KDOT urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through a highway work zone.
Persons with questions about the road work or other KDOT projects can call South Central Kansas Public Affairs Manager, Martin Miller, at 620-663-3361 or 877-550-5368.
