New unemployment numbers have been released by the Kansas Department of Labor. It shows the rate for Hutchinson in April dropped to 4.4%, down from 5.1% in March and lower then the 5.4% in April of last year. There were 910 residents of the city without work last month according to the figures.
Reno County also saw a drop in the unemployment rate in April. The rate at 4.1%, down from 4.7% in March and again lower then April of last year when the rate was 4.9%. There were 1, 364 residents of the county without work last month, but most of those were in the city of Hutchinson.
Other area counties also fared well. Harvey County’s rate last month was at 4.1%, Kingman and Rice Counties at 3%, McPherson at 3.1%, Pratt County at 2.9% and Stafford County at 3.9%. the largest county in the area population wise is Sedgwick County. Their rate was at 5.4% which is down from March when the number was 6 %.
For the state of Kansas, the April seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.8 percent, down from 4.9 percent in March and down from 5.5 percent in April 2013.
