Youth leaders, Rice County Coalition for Children and Families members, Rice County Law Enforcement and local participating liquor retailers are conducting a Sticker Shock Campaign to address the issue of adults providing alcohol to minors and hosting underage drinking parties.
Officials say alcohol has been identified as the number one drug of choice among Kansas youth, and according to local data, the most used substance in Rice County.
A goal of a “Sticker Shock” Campaign is to use stickers or other signage at retail outlets that sell alcohol to warn about the penalties for furnishing alcohol to minors.
The impact of the stickers is increased by longer-lasting signs to be displayed by participating retailers. The project goal is to raise public awareness, and strengthen the deterrent effect of the laws against providing alcohol to minors and social hosting.
Interested parties can join the Rice County Coalition for Children and Families, Rice Co. Law Enforcement and youth for the Sticker Shock Campaign at the following dates and times:
Sticker Shock Kick-Off and Training for adult and youth participants
Thursday June 27, 8:30-10:00 a-m, at the Lyons Christian Church, 220 West Avenue South, Lyons (Basement meeting room). Then another will run from 10 am-12:30 p-m, also at Lyons Christian Church.
