HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Public Schools Board of Education heard Monday about a new partnership that will bring new services to students at Avenue A Elementary School.
In an initiative with United Way of Reno County, a neighborhood center will be located at Avenue A. The center will provide additional community resources for Avenue A families in the southwest Hutchinson neighborhood.
“A Neighborhood Center is a place with a focus on children, families and advancing the common good for all in the neighborhood,” said Beth Redinger, Avenue A Principal. “It requires a set of partnerships between the school and other community resources. Resources are provided, through the center, to students and families to empower and support parents in the education of their children while also addressing issues that might get in the way of the child’s success.”
United Way Executive Director Tona Turner says they will fund a Neighborhood Center Coordinator, who will be at the school to work with teachers and families to connect community resources to each child and their family needs.
