HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 20-year-old Hutchinson man already facing two counts of electronic solicitation and aggravated indecent liberties with a child now faces four more counts of solicitation.
Matthew O’Keefe appeared via video Monday morning from the Reno County Jail where he was told by Judge Trish Rose of being charged with the four additional counts. The complaint alleges that there was contact with four different girls 14 and under. Two allegedly occurring between March 21, and April 2, another around April 1, and the final one between March 23 and April 2.
O’Keefe had been arrested back on April 4, and charged with soliciting a 13-year-old girl, and a second count for making contact with what he thought was a 15-year-old girl and doing the same thing. The state also charged him with attempted aggravated indecent liberties with a child. The complaint for those crimes alleged that they occurred between November 1, 2012 and January 26, 2013. The final count is for aggravated indecent solicitation for a child under 14, occurring during that same time period.
The case started when O’Keefe allegedly making contact online with a 13-year-old girl back in March and solicited a sexual encounter. Hutchinson Police then got involved and Detective Scott Carlton then made contact with O’Keefe on Facebook as a 15-year-old girl and began chatting with him. They decided to meet on April 4, at Rice Park, on the city’s west side. O’Keefe showed up thinking he was going to meet the 15-year-old girl, but met police instead.
Bond in the case is set at 25-thousand and he’ll be in front of Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen with both cases as part of a waiver-status docket on May 27.
