HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 26-year-old Hutchinson man accused of two counts of aggravated battery, aggravated assault and aggravated endangerment of a child entered “no contest” pleas to an amended complaint which knocks all the charges down to misdemeanors. Judge Tim Chambers then granted Mitchell Stahl, 12-months probation in the case.
Stahl didn’t admit guilt for allegedly backing into a woman and her child with his vehicle and also threatening her with a baseball bat, but he didn’t contest the charges either. The whole thing started with Stahl getting into an argument with the victim, Tisha Crile. This started after she claims she saw him being abusive to a young child. The alleged crimes occurring on the parking lot of Walmart back on July 4, 2013.
The state agreed to drop the two charges of aggravated battery to simple batteries, the aggravated assault to simple assault and the aggravated endangerment of a child charge to endangerment of a child, all misdemeanors, if the defendant entered pleas in the case.
During the hearing Monday, Judge Chambers ran the sentences concurrent to each other for a total sentence of 12-months in the Reno County Jail, but then granted 12-months probation. He also ordered Stahl to serve 50-hours of community service and attend an anger management class. He says based on what he heard at the recent hearing in the case, he believes Stahl has some anger issues saying he believes he did put the small child in danger during the incident last summer.
