The Kansas Department of Commerce and the Older Worker Task Force will host the 17th annual Older Worker Awards ceremony on April 24, at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library in Marvin Auditorium. That includes an award to an organization here in Reno County.
The “Employer of the Older Worker Award” will be presented to the Reno County Historical Society which bestows appreciation for them promoting, recruiting and retaining older workers. But also their work in developing a positive work environment for older workers. The historical society runs the Reno County Museum and the Strataca, Kansas Underground Salt Museum.
This awards event honors older workers who continue to play an important role in the Kansas workforce and economy, as well as their employers. Honorees were selected from an applicant pool that included workers age 55 and older who are employed in both public and private sector jobs, and businesses and companies that regularly employ workers age 55 and older.
Other winners include the “Outstanding Older Worker” to Patricia Nichols, of Alton, Kansas. This award bestows appreciation on Nichols for demonstrating outstanding qualities of leadership, dedication and commitment.
And the “Oldest Worker” award goes to Robert Oleen, of Dwight, Kansas. This award celebrates the tenacity and fortitude of Oleen.
