The Reno County Commission Tuesday approved SCS Aquatera’s Engineering and Planning Services proposal for the Reno County Landfill at a cost of 38-thousand dollars. This is for annual and even periodic services.
That would include volume calculations that is a method that evaluates performance and air space available in the landfill, leechate management cost evaluation with the four ponds within the landfill and dealing with evaporation within the ponds. They’ll also work with planning another cell within the landfill which would be bid out during the first quarter of 2015.
The commission also heard a report on the financial model summary and consideration of increasing solid waste fee assessments for the landfill. They made no decision on any changes for fees, but will receive recommendations for fees next week.
County Administrator Gary Meagher says they need to establish rates for next year for solid waste users within the county. The fee would go from 67-dollars to 70-dollars per unit next year for in county users while the out of county fee would stay at 31-dollars per ton.
Under the two models proposed, the fee would go to 77-dollars by 2021. This is the annual fee shown on property taxes.
The commission also tabled a resolution for providing a schedule of rates and charges in connection with waste tire disposal at the landfill and the expanding of tire definitions next week. This would effect commercial operators that use the landfill to get rid of old tires.
The Reno County landfill also serves Harvey, Kingman, McPherson, Rice, and Stafford counties.
