The South Hutchinson Police Department will once again provide the free disposal of unused medications as part of the state wide drug take back day set for Saturday, April 26. The collection will run from 10am until 2pm, at the police station at 10 east Blanchard in South Hutchinson. This is the second time the South Hutch Police have been a part of the event, and is the only entity in Reno County to offer the take back program.
The collection event is part of a nationwide effort to safely dispose of leftover medications to prevent accidental or intentional misuse. Since the program began in 2010, the semi-annual event has collected more than 22 tons of medications in Kansas alone.
The National Drug Take-Back Day is coordinated by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, which collects and safely destroys the medications.
