A former Hutchinson News employee is free on a 15-thousand dollar bond after he was arrested for three crimes associated with embezzling thousands of dollars while collecting money from customers.
Gregory Todd Jerauld is charged with a computer crime, making false writing and felony theft. The first two counts are level 8 non-person felonies while the theft charge is a level 9.
Hutchinson Police Detective Dean Harcrow says the computer crime and making false writing charges come in because he would collect money, but keep some of that money for himself, then falsified the records on three different accounts.
Apparently, back in November the newspaper conducted an audit and discovered the missing money which is alleged to total around 20-thousand dollars.
A warrant was issued for the arrest of Jerauld and he turned himself in Thursday according to Harcrow and then was quickly released after posting a 15-thousand dollar bond.
He has not made any court appearance on the charges thus far, but that should come sometime next week.
