The 27-year-old Hutchinson man who called police back on April 9, to report a burglary at a neighbors home, only to be arrested for committing the burglary has been formally charged.
David Wiggs is now charged with burglary, misdemeanor theft, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal damage to property.
Police were called on the report of a burglary at a home in the 700 block of West 6th, around 10:45 a-m, that morning. When they arrived, they found a broken window to the basement of the home and the back door had been kicked in. They also found blood inside the residence and a boot print found on the back door.
When police made contact with Wiggs, he had one of his hands in his pocket. At first, he refused to take it out, but when he did, it was clear that his hand had recently been cut. They also found blood inside his residence which is in the same neighborhood. Wiggs had taken off his boots, but when police saw the boots, they matched the boot print found at the burglary scene. The one boot also had some paint that had chipped off when it made contact with the door.
The only thing taken from the residence was three packs of cigarettes according to the complaint. They were allegedly found in Wiggs home along with some marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Wiggs appeared with his attorney Kelly Driscoll via-video from the Reno County Jail where she asked for a signature bond, which was granted by the judge. She stated that there are some mental issues with Wiggs. Assistant District Attorney Andrew Davidson wanted him held until they had more details of those issues including what medication he’s taking for those issues.
He will be allowed the signature or OR bond meaning he just needs to sign his name and will be released. The bond amount is 8-thousand, 250-dollars.
The next court appearance for Wiggs will be on May 6.
