Two men arrested in association with a cocaine distribution were in court Thursday for what was supposed to be a preliminary hearing in the case.

However, the case against 29-year-old Jamaal Norris was continued to a waiver-status docket on April 8, while he considers a plea offer.

The co-defendant, Corey Smith waived his right to preliminary hearing in a felony case against him while he considers plea offer. He has some time to consider that. He also entered guilty pleas to three counts in a separate misdemeanor possession of marijuana case. But, he’ll be sentenced along with the felony case. If he excepts the plea offer from the state, the marijuana case would run concurrent to the felony case.

The felony case against the two centers on a search warrant being served on the home of Norris. He along with Smith are both charged with possession of cocaine with intent to sell withing a thousand feet of a school. Norris is also charged with possession of marijuana and a controlled substance also with intent to sell within a thousand feet of a school, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to package and two counts of no tax stamp.

The Reno County Drug Unit did a search of the residence in the 500 block of West 8th, and they allegedly located on Norris, a baggie containing suspected marijuana. In his bedroom, they allegedly found more marijuana and numerous digital scales. They also apparently found cocaine and drug potpourri.

According to the complaint, there was at least 3.5 grams of cocaine, at least 25-grams of marijuana and at least 25-grams of a controlled substance.

Both men are free on bond.
