A 55-year-old Hutchinson man was taken into custody around 8:15 a-m, this morning after he allegedly ran from an auto accident in the county overnight. That being Michael Hansen.
It was just after midnight when the accident was reported at K-96 and Haven Rd. The reporting party was a passerby and believed the vehicle had overturned at least one time. As Reno County Sheriff Deputies were responding to the area, Hansen was able to get out. He told those who had stopped to assist him he was not going to jail. He then jumped over a fence and ran off into a field. He reportedly had a laceration on his forehead and was bleeding when he ran from the scene.
As deputies arrived the scene, they found that the accident occurred east of Victory Rd., on eastbound K-96. Based on evidence at the scene, it’s believed the vehicle first left the road on the right side, re-entered the road and then exited the road on the right again. The vehicle then traveled a short distance through the ditch prior to overturning and coming to rest on the driver’s side of the vehicle. Due to the amount of damage to the vehicle. it had to be towed from the scene. No airbags deployed and it’s unknown if any safety equipment was worn by Hansen
He was located after walking into a farmstead in the area of Rayl Rd and Silver Lake Rd.,. about 6- to- 7 miles south of the crash scene. He had a minor laceration to his head and refused medical treatment.
So far, he’s being charged with leaving the scene of an injury accident and failing to report an injury accident. Bond in the case set at 500-dollars.
