Two items were approved by the Hutchinson City Council Tuesday morning. One was the approval of the BNSF Railway Company agreement for the Washington Street crossing near 3rd Avenue.
The BNSF Railroad has agreed to proceed with improvements to the rough crossing with the city paying half the cost. The crossing surface replacements generally take 3-5 days to complete and will require the crossing to be closed to traffic during that time.
The cities share of the upgrades comes to 121-thousand, 240-dollars. In addition, the city street department will provide the traffic control and the asphalt work.
Now that the council has approved the agreement, a schedule will be work out between the city and BNSF for the work to be done sometime in the near future.
The other item included the bonds being paid off for assistance in building the Kansas Underground Salt Museum.
The Sales Tax Special Obligation Revenue Bonds were issued on 2006 as part of the financing for the project. The agreement shows that once the bonds are paid in full, the sublease agreement is to be terminated and reassigned to the Reno County Historical Society and the management agreement between the city and historical society would be terminated.
