The March meeting of the Hutchinson Community College Board of Trustees began with introduction of two honored students. LeAnn Bravi, sponsor for Phi Theta Kappa at HCC, introduced sophomores Evan Wondra of Hutchinson and Emma Flynn of Lindsborg.
Wondra and Flynn were selected to the Phi Theta Kappa All-Kansas Academic Team. The duo will receive a 3-hundred dollar scholarship and an additional 1-thousand scholarship if they attend a regents school. 53-students were selected from the community colleges in the state of Kansas. The team is sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, The Kansas Association of Community College Trustees and the presidents of the state’s community colleges.
Wondra is majoring in architectural drafting with a 3.78 grade point average. He is an executive officer of Phi Theta Kappa, and a member of both the Campus Activities Board and Circle K. He is a coach for the All-Star team for Hutchinson Special Olympics and has been on the HCC President’s Honor Roll. He plans to attend Fort Hays State after graduation.
Flynn is a pre-medicine student with a 4.0 grade point average. She is an executive officer for Phi Theta Kappa, and is the vice president of the HCC Student Government Association. She is a tutor on campus and is active in both the HCC symphonic band and the Hutchinson Symphony Orchestra. She is also an active community volunteer with Dillon Nature Center, Reins of Hope and the Soup Kitchen. She has also been named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and as a Newman Civic Fellow Award winner.
The board also approved bids for construction on the Mull Family Football Complex and the Bob and Lou Peel Weight Room project. The board approved a bid of $852,000 from A&A Builders of Hutchinson for the project.
