A 46-year-old Hutchinson man arrested Tuesday evening on charges of aggravated battery and aggravated assault finally appeared before a judge Friday morning. In fact, Richard Manwarren Sr., was brought to the courtroom as opposed to appearing via video from the county jail. He appeared in front of District Judge Joe McCarville who was sitting in for Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen. He had refused to appear before Magistrate Judge McEwen the two previous days.
The case started around 9:40 p-m, Tuesday when Hutchinson Police were dispatched to 314 Grandview for a report of a disturbance. They found 37-year-old Randy Dowers suffering from a single stab wound and multiple cuts to his hands. 49-year-old Kimberly Hopper alleges that she has been threatened with a knife by Manwarren during the same incident.
Apparently Dowers and Manwarren had been to a local bar and drinking, then came back to Dowers home and were drinking some more. Hopper then came home and began doing laundry and Manwarren grabbed a butcher knife in the kitchen and then attacked Dowers.
Dowers was treated at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for his wounds. Manwarren was taken to jail with a bond set at 10-thousand dollars.
During the appearance Friday morning, the defendant didn’t request a bond reduction and the state thought the bond was appropriate.
He should still make an appearance next week, once the state files any formal charges.
