Hutchinson Fireman responding to a chicken coop fire in east Hutchinson Thursday evening.
According to Battalion Chief Darin Gehring, the fire at Sixth & Porter was put out quickly, about 5-minutes. He says all of the chickens survived, however the eggs weren’t so lucky. It also caught a small garden shed on fire and was also quickly put out. That caused some small damage to it.
They believe that a heat lamp was knocked over by a chicken. Damage estimated at 15-hundred dollars
Gehring says the coop was about 10-by-10 in size and they now say there were about 12-chickens.
The fire was reported just after 8:30 p-m.
