The Hutchinson School Board Monday approved submitting a pair of Project Lead the Way grant applications that would bring additional STEM resources to a pair of district schools.
STEM – Science-Technology-Engineering-Mathematics – are at the center of both the Career and Technical Education Academy at Hutchinson High School and at Hutchinson Magnet School at Allen, which is the district’s STEM K-6 school.
Both applications are being made to Project Lead the Way at Wichita State University’s College of Engineering.
For the high school, the grant application for 20-thousand dollars would allow the CTEA to offer a computer integrated management class at the school. The funds would be used for educator training and materials and supplies for the class.
Computer integrated management is designed to introduce students to manufacturing process, product design, robotics and automation.
The second grant would allow HMS at Allen to become a Project Lead the Way Launch school. The 14-thousand, 492-dollar grant would allow students to have access to resources to gain a deeper understanding of STEM concepts. The money would be used for technology resources, curriculum and educator training.
