Once again Hutchinson Fire Department Crews responded to another structure fire. This time it was in the 1400 block of North Jefferson Street. When they arrived, they found a fire on the exterior of the residence.
The fire was brought under control in 5-minutes with units on scene for less than 2-hours.
Estimate of damage is at 15-thousand dollars. The damage involved a neighboring hot tub, a shared fence, exterior of the residence, and minor damage to the inside of the second story.
The cause of the fire was undetermined with possibilities of careless smoking or a malfunction of the hot tub unable to be ruled out.
There were two adults and two children in the residence at the time of fire, no injuries were reported. The home was insured.
The fire was reported around 6:45 p-m, Wednesday evening.
Hutchinson crews have now responded to 5-structure fires in a 31-hour time period. Though none of the fires have been malicious in nature, they remind residents to be extra cautious.
This time of year there is normally a spike in structure fire responses due to electrical draws from use of heating appliances, misuse of heating appliances, and disposing of ashes from fireplaces.
Luckily no one has been injured in any of the fires, but they suggest that it might be a good time to test smoke detectors and look around your residence for items that could easily help spread an exterior fire.
