The Hutchinson School Board Monday approved a 2014-15 academic calendar that starts school for pre-kindergarten through ninth grades on Wednesday, Aug. 13, and ends it for pre-K through 11th grades on Thursday, May 21, 2015.
The calendar largely follows the 2013-14 calendar with one notable change. Students will be off the entire Thanksgiving week (Nov. 24 through 28). Licensed staff, meanwhile, will have professional development on Nov. 24 and 25 and will be off for Thanksgiving Nov. 26 through 28.
Christmas-New Year’s Recess will be two full weeks for students and staff – from Dec. 22 through Jan. 2.
Hutchinson High School senior class of 2015’s final day of class will be Thursday, May 14, with graduation set for 2 p-m. Sunday, May 17.
Also during Monday’s meeting, the board reviewed Results Policy 3 – Learning and Innovation Skills. Donna Davis, assistant superintendent, told the board significant progress had been made in three areas on the report: Increasing the percentage of middle school students earning a “C” or better in advanced courses, increasing the percentage of high school students who earn a “C” or better in dual credit classes and decreasing the percentage of high school students who need to take a “developmental” course when entering Hutchinson Community College.
