A 29-year-old Hutchinson woman scheduled for a preliminary hearing Thursday entered no contest pleas as charged, instead.
Laura Enriquez was arrested back in July on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of criminal discharge of a firearm, criminal damage to property over a thousand dollars, felony flee and elude, driving under the influence and illegal transportation of liquor.
Enriquez is alleged to have kicked in a back door of a home in the 800 block of West 22nd, where an argument ensued with the occupant of the home. She then fired a round at that residence which traveled through the home and exited a window. Inside was the occupant and some small children at the time.
Shortly after that around 4 a-m, she was at another home where she fire three rounds, one struck a vehicle through the back window and into a head rest. Two other rounds entered the home in the 16-hundred block of Landon, where again there were occupants in the home. That included a women and her grandchildren.
She’s then accused of leading Hutchinson Police on a high speed chase for 15-minutes which ended in the 2700 block of North Tyler. She apparently left the vehicle at that location and was found hiding behind some bushes. All this occurring on or around July 20, of last year.
The gun involved was a 22-caliber weapon and at one location, police found 3-spent shells and 3-other live rounds were found in the gun.
Enriquez entered the pleas on the condition that the state didn’t file additional charges in the case which they were considering. That included possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, another count of criminal damage and interference with law enforcement.
Both sides will be able to argue their sentencing recommendations and Defense Attorney Kelly Driscoll requested a special setting 60-days down the road saying she was going to have a mental evaluation done on her client. Judge Joe McCarville agreed to the request and set sentencing for March 27, at 1:30 p-m.
