A 92-year-old Mt. Hope man was found to be okay, although tired after he apparently walked away from his home in the 20400 block South Worthington Rd. in Reno County. Albert Schmidt had been last seen around 10:00 a-m Tuesday morning.
Initially 6- Reno County Sheriff Deputies responded to begin the search of the area which is a large truck salvage yard surrounded by wheat fields.
Kansas Dept of Wildlife and Parks Officers and officers from the South Hutchinson Police voluntered to assist with the search utilizing ATV’s. Kansas Dept of Corrections also responded with K-9 search and rescue.
At around 5:00 p-m, officers searching with the ATV’s saw Schmidt waving to them by a tree northwest of the residence.
Schmidt says he was walking when he became disoriented and tired and sat down by the tree.
He stated to the officers he was just too tired to walk back home and he was very thirsty.
Officers transported him back to his home where he was able to rest and get a drink so no medical attention was required.
