HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Despite the chance of severe weather, a great crowd turned out for the dedication and ribbon cutting of the Hutchinson Sports Arena. The ceremony included comments from HCC President Carter File, Chamber President Debra Teufel and Mayor John Daveline.

The ribbon cutting was followed by refreshments, which included a cake shaped like the Arena and tours of the facility taking patrons around to areas they normally wouldn’t see. Visitors also got a chance to test their skills in the main gym against some HCC basketball players.

The Arena renovation was made possible through a sales tax referendum that was approved overwhelmingly by voters. The total project cost just over $25 million and took just under a year to go from groundbreaking to completion.
