HUTCHINSON, Kan. — More budget discussion is in store tomorrow for the Hutchinson City Council as it continues to crunch the numbers before the public hearing and adoption of the 2018 numbers later this summer.
The last meeting saw some major changes in the future needs of the fire department after the council pushed back any construction of a new fire station to 2019. It’s the second year in a row construction has been deferred to another year.
The delay may also bring back questions as to where the station will be built. Former Fire Chief Kim Forbes wanted to build the third station near the Fairgrounds, and then close the station at 20th and Main. The new station would be the main fire station. Now that is in limbo.
The city built a new fire station on East Avenue E last year and is currently working on a new station at 11th and Hendricks.
Tuesday’s budget meeting for the Hutchinson City Council begins at 8:30 a.m. at the city offices.
