PRETTY PRAIRIE, Kan. — It was just a couple of loads, but the wheat harvest is slowly getting underway in central Kansas. Other elevators are reporting the same south of Reno County. Several farmers were also out cutting just east of Burrton Friday afternoon.
With hot windy weather in the forecast, activity at elevators will likely ramp up this weekend. At the Farmers CO-OP in Pretty Prairie, two loads of test cutting were brought in with moisture content running from 13.7 to 13.9 percent, and test weights at 59-61 pounds per bushel.
Some feel that cutting could really get going early next week if the rain stays away.
