HUTCHINSON, Kan. — With the wheat harvest getting closer, the Kansas Agricultural Statistic Service has released the latest numbers on how the wheat crop is fairing.
They rate the winter wheat condition as 9 percent very poor, 17 poor, 31 fair, 37 good, and 6 excellent. Winter wheat coloring was 62 percent, near 66 last year, but ahead of 53 for the five-year average. Maturity was at 7 percent.
The wheat harvest is expected to begin in the next week or so.
Corn planting is at 90 percent, behind last year when we were at 97 percent and the 96 average. Corn, which has emerged, was 76 percent, behind 86 both last year and the average.
