HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Coffee at the Cosmo returns for its monthly program Thursday. This month’s program is a presentation of “Apollo Saturn V F-1 Engine Recovery,” presented by special guest speaker Vince Capone.
Capone is a speaker and lecturer on marine technology, shipwreck search OPS, diving, and marine sciences.
Capone was part of the recovery team that pulled the Apollo F-1 engines out of the Atlantic Ocean. The Cosmosphere’s fabrication, restoration + high-fidelity replica division was chosen to conserve those engines in 2012. Currently, the conserved thrust chamber, LOX dome and turbo pump from the Apollo 11 mission to the moon are on display at the Cosmosphere.
Coffee at the Cosmo runs from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. and is free to the public.
