Local non-profits and faith based organizations have come together for disaster assistance for what they say is the common good of Reno County. It’s organized under the name of Reno County Volunteers Active in Disaster (VOAD).
Their mission has been to meet the need for ongoing coordination in Reno County providing volunteer, financial, spiritual, physical and/or psychological support for people whose lives have been affected by a disaster in the community. This coordination was brought on by the need for assistance due to the flooding issues we experienced in August throughout Reno County.
The team has assisted community organizations to assure systematic needs analysis and resource matching. This group has partnered with both public and civic disaster response organizations including UMCOR, American Red Cross, Church World Service, The Salvation Army as well as nonprofit assistance from Lutheran and Presbyterian relief and the United Way of Reno County.
They’ve been working with individuals to provide community support.
The assistance for recovery has been provided on a case-by-case basis to the extent resources have been available.
If you experienced damage due to the flooding in August and would like to inquire about assistance, please call The American Red Cross at 620-662-3336, ext 103. The cut off to apply for assistance will be December 31st, 2013.
