The Reno County Health Department will begin administering flu vaccine on Monday, September 23.
For the very first time, certain vaccines will guard against four strains of the flu rather than the usual three. They’re called quadrivalent vaccines and they’re so new that they’ll make up only a fraction of this year’s supply – but the Reno County Health Department has managed to secure 1,870 doses.
The charge for this enhanced coverage vaccine is $32.00. Most major insurance companies including Medicaid and Medicare will cover costs, if you bring your card with you. The administration charge may be reduced if you bring verification of your household income.
The Health Department also has FLU vaccines for children that qualify for the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program.
CDC recommends that everyone 6 months and older get an annual flu vaccine, ideally by October. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for your body to develop an immune response. Get vaccinated now so you will be protected all season long.
