After falling nearly 9-feet below normal, the recovery continues at Cheney Reservoir. More then 3-inches of rain fell this week and that has the Ninnescah River running at a good pace.
That also means more water coming into Cheney.
As of Friday morning, the water level at Cheney was at 1-thousand, 415 feet. While that’s still about 5-feet below normal, it is a marked improvement over the past two weeks.
The lake level could still improve over the next couple of days as the run-off from this weeks rainfall continues to feed into the reservoir.
The drought and draw down from the city of Wichita has left the lake all but unusable to most boaters. Wichita officials have been concerned that if the levels of the lake continue to drop, they wouldn’t have enough water to meet demand. They currently get about 60% of their water from the lake in Reno County.
The lake still needs to gain another 2-to-3 feet to completely open the lakes boating facilities.
