HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 26-year-old Kansas Department of Correction inmate has been charged by that state with two counts of felony battery of a corrections officer and traffic in contraband in a correctional facility.
Simon Garcia who is serving time for aggravated battery and contraband convictions out of Lyon County is accused of battering two officers at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility causing injury. He’s was also allegedly in possession of a homemade knife according to the complaint. The alleged crimes occurring on Jan. 15, 2016.
Garcia was moved from the Hutchinson facility after that incident and is now housed at the
El Dorado Correctional Facility.
With the charges filed, his case will now move to a waiver-status docket on June 1, in front of Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen.
