HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 27-year-old man was taken to jail after he allegedly stole a pickup Sunday here in Hutchinson.
Jason Thiel is suspected of attempted flee and elude, interference with law enforcement and felony theft.
After the report of the theft, police spotted the vehicle near 8th & Pershing. No one was inside, so they waited, then saw the man drive away. They attempted to make a stop, but he failed to do so. After running a number of stop signs, he then allegedly abandoned the vehicle near 8th & Poplar and ran. The truck then rolled into another vehicle.
Police initially couldn’t locate him after setting up a perimeter, so they went back to the home near 8th & Pershing and learned who he was. Thiel was arrested and taken to jail. All this occurred around 8 p.m. Sunday.
Bond in the case was set at $4,500 and, after an appearance in court, his bond was left the same. He’ll be back in court on May 9 to see if the state filed formal charges.
