HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The hearing for a 34-year-old man who was convicted for burglary and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon is again scheduled for sentencing.
Derrick Scaife was arrested on Nov. 9, 2015, in association with a stabbing incident in Hutchinson and entered a plea to a reduced charge of burglary and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. That was back in February.
At the last hearing there was a discussion of him wanting to withdraw the plea and he was even granted a new attorney. The case is scheduled for hearing in front of Judge Trish Rose.
Amado Martinez was allegedly stabbed by Scaife after an altercation at a west side Hutchinson home. He was taken by EMS to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Martinez is the boyfriend of Scaife’s ex-wife and he apparently left after the stabbing. He went to McPherson where he was arrested later that day.
He remains free on a $38,000 bond. If the sentencing hearing occurs, we’ll let you know the outcome.
