HUTCHINSON, Kan. — There will be a community briefing on Medicaid Expansion scheduled for 4 p.m., Monday, May 2, at the Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce office at 117 N. Walnut in Hutchinson.
This event is being held in conjunction with the Kansas Hospital Association (KHA) with representatives of the KHA in attendance.
Presenters will include Jason Ball, President of the Chamber of Commerce; Dr. Timothy Crater of the Hutchinson Clinic; Mike Garrett, Executive Director for the Horizons Mental Health Center; and Ken Johnson, President and CEO of Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System.
Each presenter will speak for 5-7 minutes and respond to questions from the audience.
They say that Medicaid expansion would bring in $400 million into Kansas each year, which will reduce the number of uninsured Kansans by 50 percent.
They add that a discussion on how the expansion will positively affect the state budget and create new jobs for our state.
Gov. Sam Brownback and Republican Legislators are opposed to any expansion and, in fact, voted it down in both Kansas House of Representatives and the Kansas Senate earlier this year.
