HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The USD 308 School Board approved new math textbooks for grades six through 12.
The district will use Glenco Math for the majority of its grades six through 12 math curriculum. For college algebra, Hutchinson High School will use Pearson College Algebra, and HHS will use the the same textbooks for trigonometry and calculus as Hutchinson Community College does.
Cost of the grades six through 12 math adoption is just under $400,000.
At the Board’s April 11 meeting, members approved Pearson Envision Math 2.0 for kindergarten through fifth grade classes. The Board’s action caps off 15 months of research by teachers and administration from all the district’s schools.
Including the math adoption for K-5 classrooms, the cost for textbooks, supporting materials and professional development will total about $1 million. The district saves money each year into a specific fund to pay for the costs associated with a new textbook adoption because it cannot afford to pay the costs in one year.
The Board spent most of its time Monday in a study session on the district’s math curriculum.
