HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Residents and business owners in the Pleasantview area are still not happy with fire and other emergency service in their area.

It was in October of last when the Reno County Commission talked about the agreements for fire protection services between Fire Districts No. 2, 3, 4 and 8.

An Emergency Response Joint Agreement was made between Reno County Fire District No. 2 and 8, and 3 and 8, also districts 4 and 8. The agreement was to have Fire District 8, which operates and maintains a fire station at Dean and Morgan Roads which the county believes provides an earlier response than the other Fire Districts to the property owners and residents in that area for their best interest.

Under the agreement, Fire District 8 would remain at the scene until they are no longer needed and the relieving Fire District would be responsible for all reports to the Kansas State Fire Marshall’s Office including the KFIRS reports.

It was further agreed that the Fire District’s would be assessed and should pay to District 8 the sum of $200.00 for each emergency response made by the Fire District 8 within other territories.

But, some of the property owners who are in districts 2, 3 and 4 want to be taken out of those districts and be placed in district 8, because of the length of time it would take for those districts to long to get to the scene.

District Two has to respond from 11 th & Hendricks in Hutchinson, District three responds from Nickerson and District four from Arlington.

All three petitions state at least 10 percent of the owners of the land involved in the proposed changes support the petitions.

They hope with the petitions presented, the issue will again come before the County Commission for consideration.
