WICHITA, Kan. — On Saturday, April 23rd, runners will gather at the Waterfront (1619 Waterfront Rd.) in Wichita and participate in a two mile fun run to benefit Dustin Curry after complications with his kidney transplant. The run takes place on the walking paths that surround the Waterfront area. Midwest KIA will have cars on site, ICT Muscle and Joint clinic is offering free massage services, and there will be free giveaways to race participants. Water and fruit will also be provided.
All profits from this event go to Dustin and his family to alleviate some financial stress.
Captain Curry has served Sedgwick County since 2008 and gained the title of Captain in 2012. He and his family reside in Valley Center. His wife, Cyndee, is a first grade teacher at Ortiz Elementary School. Their older daughter is a freshman at Butler Community College and their younger is a junior attending Valley Center High School.
The kidney transplant was Nov. 19, 2015, where complications made for a higher-than-expected hospital bill.
Since then, Captain Curry has returned to his posts in Wichita and Valley Center. Currently he and his doctors are trying to find the proper combination of medications to prevent the body from rejecting the kidney. This has resulted in a second hospital stay.
There have been previous fundraisers to help with the transplant bills and organizers say this fundraiser is aimed at knocking out extra bills from the complications.
