TOPEKA, Kan. – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued a boil water advisory for Pretty Prairie, after E Coli was found in a sample from the city’s public water supply.
KDHE issued the boil water advisory as a precaution, the organization says it will be lifted when it determines the system is no longer at risk of contamination.
If your water service is with the public water supply in Pretty Prairie, KDHE suggests you take precautions under this advisory:
1.) Boil water for one minute prior to drinking or food preparation, or use bottled water
2.) Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic ice maker
3.) Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water
4.) Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled. Supervision of children is necessary while bathing so that water is not ingested. Persons with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult their physicians
If your tap water appears dirty, flush the water lines by letting the water run until it clears
KDHE says most E. coli are harmless, but some are pathogenic and could make you sick.
