HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A Hutchinson convicted in the shooting death of a Hutchinson woman will be resentenced after a ruling by the Kansas Supreme Court this week.
Charles Logsdon was denied all other appeals in his conviction for the murder of Jennifer Heckel, but will be resentenced in Reno County District Court. He was given a hard 50 sentence which the Supreme Court ruled was unconstitutional because Judge Trish Rose handed down the sentence on the evidence in the case rather than by a jury beyond reasonable doubt.
Logsdon will still get at least 25 years to life when he’s resentenced and all other counts will run consecutive to one another, meaning he is still looking at a minimum of 47 years in prison.
Logsdon was convicted of shooting Heckel in her home in June of 2011 in what turned out to be a case of mistaken identity.
