Hundreds lined the streets of Main Street to enjoy a Labor Day parade to begin the celebration of the 100th birthday of the Kansas State Fair.
There were plenty of floats as well as state officials on hand to be in the parade including Governor Sam Brownback, Attorney General Derek Schmidt and Secretary of State Kris Kobach.
The governor after the parade says he was pleased with parade. He says, “I thought it was excellent. He says you couldn’t have asked for a nicer day and says there were lots of floats with originality.” But what really impressed the governor was the turn out. He says usually you have to build a crowd with parades. He says, this one, “you started off with a nice crowd.”
The governor also gave us his thoughts on 100-years of the Kansas State Fair. He says he loves the tradition of state fairs and sees them as not just seeing things at the fair, but also a family event, something the family can do together. He says its kind of like a family reunion of sorts.
The band “INSTEP” performed after the parade at the Lake Talbott entertainment stage on the fairgrounds.
The fair of course starts on Friday and the governor says he will be back on the fairgrounds on Saturday.
