HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Law enforcement arrested a 44-year-old Hutchinson man Friday for distribution of marijuana and conspiracy to distribute after he was caught with a large amount found inside a car which came to Hutchinson from western Kansas.
Arrested on the charges was Edmond Cantu who is no stranger to law enforcement.
Reno County authorities were notified by a DEA agent that a tan Cadillac Escalade carrying approximately 40-pounds of marijuana was coming this way. It was expected to be delivered in the area of Applebee’s near K-61 and 17th.
Law enforcement saw that vehicle arrive and a second a short time later. Cantu apparently got into the Cadillac and tried to leave the parking lot. A traffic stop was made. They read him his Miranda rights and he stated he had nothing to say. The marijuana was eventually retrieved from the caddy which was hidden in compartments built into the door panels and back quarter panels. The total weight of the marijuana was right at 43-pounds.
In court, Cantu was told of the potential charges and the judge set another hearing for next week. Bond in the case is set at $250,000.
