MCPHERSON COUNTY – A small plane made an emergency landing just after 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday in McPherson County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a plane piloted by 22-year-old Ian Barnhart of Wichita took off from Eisenhower Airport for a routine flight check.
While flying over McPherson County, he saw mechanical indicators that were concerning enough that he attempted an emergency landing. As he was approaching a black top road, he had full failure of the engine and he put the aircraft down successfully on 21st Ave, south of Overland Road.
During their emergency landing, a power line was contacted damaging the landing gear on the right side of the plane.
Barnhart and a passenger from Texas were not injured.
