HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Time is running out on the grace period for those who own rental property to have those properties registered with the city.
As of Tuesday, 3,500 rental properties have been registered with the city, while officials believe there are 1,500 still to go.
The grace period for rental property owners to register their properties with the city ends on March 31. That includes paying a $25.00 fee per unit which does include the cost for inspections. There will be an administration fee of $50.00 per month, after the grace period ends.
The city decided to put together this program which they say will help correct or prevent housing conditions that adversely impact life, health and general welfare of the tenants and the surrounding area.
They also believe it will preserve the value of the land and buildings as well as the local tax base.
Again, landlords have until the end of the month to get their properties registered.
