HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 35-year-old man who was arrested on drug-related charges back on Dec. 22, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Thursday.
Christopher Villela is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute, felony interference with law enforcement and battery of a law enforcement officer.
The arrest occurred at a home in the 1700 block of East Blanchard.
It started when police were sent because of a 911 hangup call. They could hear in the background a female yelling for someone to get up and a male speaking with a slurred speech. When police arrived, they asked to make everyone in the house was okay. They found the suspect in a bedroom and he was initially unresponsive. They also found drugs, a scale and a rifle in the bedroom where Villela was sleeping. He eventually woke up and started struggling with officers and was kicking one of them in his legs.
He remains jailed on a $14,000 bond and there is also a warrant for his arrest in Texas.
The hearing is scheduled in front of Judge Joe McCarville.
