Roman sentenced to 41 months for shooting at police officers

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The 23-year-old man shot by Hutchinson Police during a standoff was Joseph Roman 2sentenced to nearly three and a half years in prison Friday afternoon in Reno County District Court.

Joseph Roman recently entered “no contest” pleas to 15 counts of aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon while a 16th count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon was dismissed as part of an agreement. Roman was given 41 months in prison for the first count, plus 19 months for the rest of the 14 remaining counts, all to run concurrently.

Roman was shot by police after he pointed a shotgun at them during a standoff that lasted over four hours in August of 2015. Roman suffered a gunshot wound to the hand in the incident.
