HUTCHINSON, Kan. — One of the two men suspected in a number of auto burglaries in the Nickerson area has now been charged with other crimes.
Nineteen-year-old Quentin Zumalt is already charged with eight counts of auto burglary and eight counts of misdemeanor theft. The state, much like the co-defendant, has now charged him with 15 more felony and misdemeanor counts including six counts of burglary, two with the intent to steal a firearm. All of the charges allegedly occurred in November and December of last year and January of this year.
Zumalt was arrested along with 19-year-old Kyle Nisbeth and faces 34 felony and misdemeanor counts, for this case as well as others.
The investigation began when a possible suspect vehicle was found in the driveway of a residence in Nickerson. The residents said they were unaware of who the vehicle belonged to, so the vehicle was seized by sheriff investigators as evidence, partly because there were items visible in the vehicle that appeared to be from the recent burglaries and also this vehicle was identified as a vehicle of interest in other recent crimes in Reno County. Ultimately, eight burglary reports were taken on Jan. 4.
The cases against the two men will now be scheduled for a future waiver-status docket.
