HUTCHINSON, Kan. — One of the four suspects in the Kwik Shop robbery and a local burglary case was back before a judge Monday where, through his attorney, he requested a bond reduction.
Twenty-year-old Kurt Koenig appeared before Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen where they argued for the reduction, while the state opposed.
He’s charged with two alternate counts of aggravated robbery with the state having two different theories for the robbery case, aggravated battery, burglary and felony theft.
After hearing arguments on both sides, Judge Allen denied the request, meaning he, along with the other three defendants, will have to post the bonds of $125,000 each before they would be let out of jail.
He was arrested along with his brother, 19-year-old Karl Koenig, 18-year-old Dakota Ney and 19-year-old Drake Lindsay. Those three face the same charges.
After the robbery of the Kwik Shop, detectives of the Hutchinson Police Department executed two search warrants in reference to the robbery on Jan. 27 and a burglary at a south side Smoke Shop back on Feb. 1. The female clerk was severely beaten by the suspects during the robbery at the convenience store.
The cases against the four are scheduled as part of a future waiver-status docket.
