HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The USD 308 School Board Monday approved a contract that will continue Pepsi as the soft drink vendor for district facilities.
Negotiated along with Hutchinson Community College and the Educational Facilities Authority of Reno County, a joint effort of USD 308 and HCC to manage Gowans Stadium, the agreement is expected to provide additional funds over a competing bid from Coca-Cola.
The agreement provides USD 308 with a 25 percent commission on sales that occur on district facilities. The Coca-Cola proposal only contained a 20 percent commission.
Under the agreement, non-Pepsi soft drinks cannot be sold in district facilities during the eight-year contract. The same prohibition has been in effect under previous soft drink agreements.
The agreement was approved on a 6-0 vote. Board member Randall Gray excused himself from the discussion and vote because he works for a PepsiCo company.
