HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 40-year-old man with an extensive criminal history is back in jail after his arrest Wednesday for being in possession of drugs, a rifle and brass knuckles.
Richard Lorenzon Warren was spotted by a Reno County Sheriff deputy at a local convenience store and knew there was a warrant for his arrest. When the deputy made contact, he noticed a rifle between the passenger seat and the console. He was then ordered to shut off the truck he was driving, but allegedly continued reaching into his pocket. He was eventually removed from the truck, place in handcuffs. They then searched his pocket and found the brass knuckles and small bag of methamphetamine. They also allegedly found two syringes in the center console. The rifle was a loaded Ruger 10-22.
Initially a passenger in the vehicle claimed the rifle was his, however after further questioning, he admitted it wasn’t his and in fact was in the vehicle when he got in.
In court, Warren tried to tell Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen that it wasn’t his, but the report from the deputy indicated otherwise.
Warren apparently had two warrants, one in Reno County, but also indicated to the judge that he also has an outstanding warrant out of Sedgwick County.
His total bonds come to $54,000 and Judge Allen declined to lower it.
Warren will be back in court for the reading of any charges in the new case are filed by the state next week and he also faces a probation violation hearing for a possession of methamphetamine case that goes back to August of 2013. He absconded from his Community Corrections according to the Kansas Department of Corrections website.
Warren has prior felony convictions for unlawful manufacturing, possession of drugs, theft by deception and aggravated battery.
